Phil is a serious LOTR fan....and Narnia fan....so as NZ provides the backdrop for these movies, we quite often find ourselves inadvertently driving off road to imagine ourselves on the movie set of one or other film. The long picture above shows Flock Hill Station near Christchurch where the battle scenes from the Chronicles of Narnia were filmed. Amazing rock formations and wonderful scrub... On the left you possibly spot one of the cast fleeing into the distance.... We then drove in search of Mt Sunday which was the setting for the City of Edoras, home of the Riders of Rohan from Lord of the Rings. If you look below Phil's finger you can spot the drumlin that is Mt Sunday/Edoras. It is set in the MOST incredible NZ valley. It is a massive valley, with beautiful mountains on either side, river flowing through it, off the main road by about 1 hour, sheep station on the hills and caterpiller skiing offered for those interested. |
